Question:

I have tried to plant veggies in pots on my porch (up high on railings), but no matter what I do raccoons dig them up and eat most of the plant. How can I discourage them naturally?

Answer:

Here are a few ideas for repelling Rocky Raccoon: Raccoons are repelled by the scent of natural enemies for example leave your dirty socks near the plant. If you have a dog, brush her/his coat and put the fur near your potted plants. Raccoons like an easy meal and prickly plants deter them. For example, we plant pumpkins in with our corn. The pumpkin vine is full of small prickly spines that a raccoon will avoid, thus saving the corn for you.
