Question:What is the difference between "vine-ripened" and "organic" foods?Answer:Great question, many answers. First some organic food is vine ripened, meaning that when you buy that tomato it was picked fresh that day fully ripened on the vine vs. a tomato that was picked green and driven to a store to turn red. Many large greenhouses pick produce early for shipping. They also may use pesticides or other chemicals to grow the plant. The best thing you can do is look for certified organic vine ripen produce. That way you know it was grown without the use of chemicals and is as fresh as they come. We also suggest that you encourage your store or farmer to start providing vegan organic produce, that way you know your veggies weren’t grown in manure or some other animal product that might possibly carry ecoli, or Mad Cow Disease or other food borne illness. |
