Olga Schifani & Amy S. Duggan, are vegan organic farmers, educators, and activists. They started the Center for Vegan Organic Education, a subscription farm on Vashon Island, Washington in 1998 and have created the Center for Vegan Organic Education, a non-profit organization to teach people to garden using vegan organic methods and to help people reconnect to their food source.

Please tell me if the manure from slaughterhouse is used to fertilize the vegetables that I eat.

Answer:

You bet! Also manure from dairy farms. We as vegetarians and vegans unknowingly support the beef and dairy industry every time we buy manure, bone meal, and blood meal. We are buying waste products from ranchers or slaughterhouses who exploit animals through their business. We’re letting them off the hook for paying to dispose of the waste. Since so many gardeners and farmers buy this waste the people who are in businesses that create it don’t have any motivation to reduce the generation of the waste in the first place. If you aren’t growing it yourself or buying produce from a farmer who uses vegan organic methods we can guarantee your produce is being grown with animal products, many by-products from slaughterhouses and fisheries.
