Question:I've heard bone meal may be harmful to use in the garden, is this true?Answer:There were apparently four deaths of gardeners in Great Britain attributed to the use of bone meal from cattle which may have had Mad Cow Disease. It is believed that the gardeners inhaled the bone meal dust as they were applying it to their gardens. In Deadly Feasts: Tracking the Secrets of a Terrifying New Plague, author Richard Rhodes describes how Bovine Spongiform Encephalopothy (BSE) may lead to Cruetzfeldt-Jacobs Disease in humans via bone meal used in agricultural production of fruits, vegetables, and grains for human consumption. |
