Question:I live in Florida and have purchased some 5' fruit trees, grapefruite, orange & tangerine what do you suggest to help it grow and to keep all pests off? Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.Answer:Trees need the most care in the first year that you plant them. Fertilize in the spring, summer and fall. Make sure to stay up on watering, especially during the hot summer months. Think about mulching to help trees hold water. There is good news regarding pests and grapefruit trees, most insect damage is not life threatening. Most afflictions affect only the peel in appearance and sometimes the size of the fruit. For more information we suggest you contact your local county extension person for problems related to your geographical area. |
