Question:Is there a good vegan recipe for marshmellows?Answer:Since becoming a vegan, I have not really had a craving for marshmallows, so I haven't been inspired to create my own vegan adaptation of them. The mere mention of them does remind me of my Girl Scout days and enjoying s'mores by the fire. Your question inspired me to do a bit of searching on the Web and I will share with you what I have learned. There is a recipe for vegan marshmallows at http://www.vegparadise.com which is recommended by vegans at various sites. Why not give it a try. Also, there are/were two producers of vegan marshmallows, Emes and Pangea; currently Emes is out of production but this may change, and Pangea's site mentions having more available in the spring. There is also talk on the Web that Smucker's marshmallow topping is vegan. I can not verify this, though, and plan to see if I can find the product in the store to check it out. If it is indeed vegan then I could make s'mores and rice crispy treats again. :) But only as an indulgence, as I'm sure that the marshmallow topping is still full of sugar. Well, if I haven't answered your question, I hope that I have at least given you a few more leads. Good luck with the marshmallows and let me know how it all worked out! |
