Book Review

Confessions of a Medical Heretic
by Robert Mendelsohn, M.D.
Review by Erin Pavlina

Confessions of a Medical HereticDr. Mendelsohn doesn't pull any punches in his book, Confessions of a Medical Heretic. And why should he? Dr. Mendelsohn is a physician; a pediatrician. Like Howard Lyman - the cattle rancher turned vegan - Dr. Mendelsohn turns on the very institution that made him what he is, a doctor. The opening paragraph of his first chapter says, "I don't advise anyone who has no symptoms to go to the doctor for a physical examination. For people with symptoms, it's not such a good idea either." He spends the rest of the book telling you why you should stay away from doctors unless you have a metal spike sticking out of your back and you don't think you can find help anywhere else.

I loved this book. Dr. Mendelsohn minces no words. He does not pontificate. Every sentence of this book is filled with obvious loathing of the "Church of Medicine" as he calls it. What gives him such credibility writing it is that he used to be one of the "Priests of the Church" himself, following the rules, giving medication needlessly, etc. He has turned against the medical establishment and tells you why you should too.

This is not to say that going to the doctor has no place in your life. But he explains very clearly under what circumstances you should go to doctors and how to protect yourself from them while you're there. It's an extremely valuable read.

After you read this book, buy How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of your Doctor, also by Robert Mendelsohn. The picture becomes very clear.
