Book ReviewMeatless Meals for Working People: Quick and Easy Vegetarian Recipesby Debra Wasserman and Charles Stahler Review by Rebecca Hess Any vegan without time to spare will appreciate Meatless Meals for Working People. Authors Debra Wasserman and Charles Stahler have compiled simple to prepare recipes using commonly found ingredients that most of us have sitting in the fridge or pantry. What makes this book unique is the fact that it contains much more than recipes. Readers will find a vegetarian spice chart, party ideas, a question and answer section, and an extensive listing of safe vegan foods at popular restaurants and fast food chains. The authors stress that when it comes to food fresh is best, but they are also realistic and provide lists of vegan friendly frozen and prepared food brands. The sample menus provided contain recipes found in the book. After trying many of these recipes (between a full time job and graduate school I might add) I will never give up Meatless Meals. This book is one that is simple to pick up in a pinch and wind up with a very healthy, very tasty meal. Although it is hard to choose just one, the lentil stew has become my favorite dish from the pages of this much appreciated book. Wasserman and Stahler provide recipes and ideas for soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and main dishes, among many others. This book is a great addition to any vegan's library. You'll be thrilled with the results and still have time to take care of the dozens of other tasks calling your name. |
