Book ReviewHow to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of your Doctorby Robert Mendelsohn, M.D. Review by Erin Pavlina I've been wanting to read this book for two years. The title intrigued me, and I was even more intrigued when I saw it was written by a Pediatrician. Article continues below This book is exceptional. Dr. Mendelsohn pulls no punches. He says exactly what I've long felt to be true about the medical profession in general and pediatricians in particular. The fact that he, himself, is a pediatrician made his opinions all the more credible. I also loved that he pointed out all the mistakes he's made over the years in his own practice and how he has changed his manner of practicing. Mendelsohn covers all the areas a new parent is concerened with including rashes, ear infections, fevers, injuries, nutrition, diseases, vision, hearing, immunizations, and so much more. I wish this book was given to every pregnant woman at her doctor's or midwife's office. It should be required reading. Along with his general admonition not to take your child to the doctor, he helps new parents diagnose and treat common ailments. He applauds Western Medicine for what it's good at, treating injury, not disease. If you are pregnant, have children, or are thinking about having children, this book is an absolute must read and receives our highest recommendation. |
