Book ReviewShazzie's detox delightsby Shazzie (Sharon Holdstock) Review by Jake Aryeh Marcus Sharon Holdstock aka Shazzie has created an invaluable little book for those seeking to rid their bodies of toxins but still enjoy delicious food. Most books about detoxification contain instructions for a regime involving ingesting little or no food, such a program then involving some unpleasant time in the bathroom. You may feel tons better after the detox is over, but the process is no fun.
Article continues below Second, Shazzie and her work are part of the raw food movement, advocating (in part) that one eat nothing that is processed in any way. Again, this leads her to include more information concerning long-term nutritional needs and to focus on recipes that one would want to eat every day. detox delights is very well written and well organized. In addition to dietary advice and a core of truly appetizing recipes, the author includes links to her own site, as well as many support groups, other books on the subject, and a wide variety of resources. The recipes are absolutely delicious and very simple. All of the ingredients are vegan and easy to find, consisting largely of fresh fruits and vegetable. The dishes are also very child friendly since they are tasty and colorful. And like the rest of the book, the author's humor is ever present. This is a great read and an important resources for any vegan, particular one considering a detoxification or in trying a raw food diet. |
