Vegan Handbook
by Debra Wasserman and Reed Mangels, Ph.D., R.D.
Review by Rebecca Hess

Vegan HandbookIf you're looking into a vegan lifestyle or if you have been vegan for years, you will find Vegan Handbook informational, useful, and inspiring. This book is a compilation of recipes, ethical information, meal plans, and a shopping guide to leather alternatives, among many other areas of vegan interest. Vegan Handbook is basically an all-inclusive guide for anyone pursuing an animal-free, cruelty-free life.

Being vegan means much more than what one chooses to eat. This is why Vegan Handbook includes information on environmental issues, vegan poems, gardening ideas, and historical information about famous vegetarians such as Benjamin Franklin and Sylvester Graham. You will also find great recipes, menu ideas, and health and nutrition information in this fabulous resource. There is an extremely informative section on cooking for and with your vegan child. The editors also include simple, nutritious recipes for making your own baby food.

It is difficult to choose a favorite recipe section when your choices include Spanish, Irish, and Middle Eastern Cuisine, and great ideas for holiday cooking. Two other great sections are "Vegetarian Meals Even Carnivores Can Enjoy" and "Holiday Gifts From the Kitchen". I'm sure you'll agree that Vegan Handbook is worth its cost three times over for it's All-In-One Vegan Chocolate Cake recipe. I have made this cake on numerous occasions and every time it's a moist, rich, chocolate-y hit! Enjoy Vegan Handbook, it's a staple that you'll find yourself repeatedly pulling off the shelf for delicious recipes and answers to your questions regarding the vegan diet and lifestyle.
