I just wanted to let everyone know who has been following this saga that my baby shower was yesterday at work, it was entirely vegan (except for some minor dip mistakes made by my co-workers that weren't served). Me and my husband's favorite restaurant, Veggie Works (www.veggieworksworld.com) saved the day. My vegan coworker recommended it to the anti-vegan shower planner. She called the owner and told her the shower was for me. The owner gave them a huge break: an entire vegan vanilla sheet cake to feed over 50 people that was delicious, a tray of tofu buffalo wings, tray of falafel, and huge containers of baba ganous and hummus all for under $100.00. Even the anti-vegan coworker was chowing down on hummus and cake. I heard many people complimenting the food (a few complaining but there are always some). Best of all, Ben and Sarah received some great baby gifts and felt that people really cared for them, not food.

THanks again for everyone's support.

Oh that's so wonderful! I'm glad things turned out okay. Now you put your feet up and relax woman! Sleep now while you still have the chance. Keep us posted as to your progress.

I'm so glad your baby shower turned out so well. It got off to a rocky start, but it all turned out well. The Veggie Works restaurant sounds wonderful - if I'm ever in NJ, I'm definitely going there!

Hi,

I'm so glad to hear that it went off all right. You knew they would end up liking the food!

My hubbie's best friend and wife are vegan and vegetarian. Her omnivorous parents were paying for the wedding and tried to insist that they serve meat at their own wedding! It's just like with your shower, as if the party is for others, not you. They told them, it's our special day and we'll decide what food is served. It was all vegan. If you lived in Australia, which they do every other year, I would have known exactly where to send you for the cake. I'll get a URL for photos of their cake which was multilayer, hazelnut cream with Echidnas iced on the sides and an enormous chocolate Echidna at the top! (They had their wedding at a wildlife sanctuary near Melbourne. It sounded heavenly - not only did the $$ help the sanctuary, but the guests could then walk around and see the animals and learn about them.) We couldn't make it because I was in school but it sounded heavenly.
