Hi all,

I'm a little confused. I've read over a lot of old threads about when and what to feed our new person (almost 5 months) in his first year, and there's been heaps of great info. One point raised quite alot was that cereal wasn't as good as fruit as a first food.

My question is, how will Baxter get iron (since I've read that stores decrease from 6 months) if he's not eating fortified cereals? Will we have to give him supplements? I'd like to avoid this if possible.

Baxter is breastfed, but are there different requirements for a formula fed baby?

Sorry if this has been covered. Just point me to the right place!

Cheers!

There is conflicting advice on this, but the iron in breastmilk is more readily absorbed than any other source of iron. Many babies have been exclusively breastfed up to a year and longer with good results. Perhaps you could check out the LLL website or www.kellymom.com - the kellymom articles are always referenced with reliable sources.
