With the help of another vegan mum, we have been organising vegan families gatherings every three months or so in the London area, so if anyone is interested, please get in touch with me as we have a visit to an animal sanctuary in Essex later this month and would love some people to join us.
The gatherings were generally well-attended for a few years (at least 6 families would meet at any one time, usually between 10 and 12 in fact), but just recently a few of the families have moved away or otherwise dropped out so we are very keen to find more vegan families in the area who have not been before as we want to keep the gatherings going. I think it's so important to have a group where vegan parents and children can go to make like-minded friends. Most of us don't have any other vegans very locally to socialise with after all.
I'd be devastated if it had to fold after 8 years, but I am afraid that if more people don't participate, we will be unable to continue. If there are only ourselves and one or two other families, it feels like a lot of effort for so little. I don't understand why so few vegan families are as keen as we are to keep meeting up. Please could people share some thoughts on this with me?
Where might I be going wrong? I wish I knew why we had had falling attendances this last year or two, but it's a complete mystery as we are a nice crowd!
Should I just soldier on even if no-one comes next time?
I'm feeling really depressed about this as I have made so much effort with this and I invite loads of vegan families every time. I do a postal invitation to about 30 families and email to even more, as well as advertising on various vegan groups on the web.
