I was wondering if anyone had one of these, if you use it a lot, and if when you blend something in that if it isn't as good for you as eating the whole food item un-blended. Does that make sense? I just thought your body needed to be part of the break-down process to get the full benefits. Does anyone know? Thanks! Cathy

Tee hee... Tricia is right! I am a walking informercial for the Vitamix. :)
Go to www.vegfamily.com/vitamix.htm to read about my personal experiences with the vitamix and why we love it so much.
But to answer your question, the great thing about the Vitamix is that you are indeed getting the whole food. No juicing where you leave the pulp behind. You throw the fruit in the machine, whirl it up and drink it. It's so delicious, you'll think you died and went to smoothie heaven.

Thanks! I went back to Cost-co and got one. It's the 5000 one and came with an extra recipe book on top of the standard issue ones. I am very excited to get it in use! It was 349$ and compared to what I saw on the internet, that is a good deal-at least I hope so! Gonna be sneaking in all kinds of extra healthy things on my dd and she won't even know it!

$349 is I beleive what Vitamix charges for their reconditioned models. Theirs comes with a 7 year warranty. Does Costco offer the warranty?
Wait til you make vegan soft serve ice cream in it! Oh man!! Pineapple or strawberry are my favorites. One time I made pineapple soft serve and ate the whole thing by myself right out oft he container. It never even made it to the freezer. Hubby came home and said, "So are you going to make ice cream for us?" And I said, "Nah, I changed my mind." *burp*... tee hee

I asked her if it was reconditioned and she said no that it was new-I saw the reconditioned ones on the internet yesterday and that's why I figured I got a good deal. The girls doing the demos were vitamix reps, so I think it's on the up and up. I got a three year warranty with it. I blended frozen strawberries and some pineapple with a little coconut juice and sugar-yummy! Someone told me that you can add purple cabbage and carrots to smoothies and they aren't really tasted. It is soooo hot here in San Diego and the cold stuff will be great but I also look forward to the soups when it cools off some!

Ah, that IS a good price for a new one. I'm surprised it didn't come with the 7 year warranty then.
I was seeing a Vitamix demo at our Costco too. I wonder what's up with that.

Erin, can you please post the recipe for the ice cream? Do you just you a milk substitute and ice and fruit? I haven't figured it out yet....

Even though the vitamix is pricey... it is by far the best purchase for the money that I've ever spent! If I could only keep one appliance, the vitamix would be it. It IS everything it's cracked-up to be! -- Yes, I'd love to be in the info-mercial, too. ;)
For Ice cream, I like just taking frozen bananas and processing it. That's it... nothing else. A little almond milk if it is too thick. Then add nuts or sliced berries on top to serve.
I also like the recipe for Frozen strawberry yogurt.... a cup of soy yogurt and 2 cups of frozen strawberries.
