I was wondering since I read that a mixture of borax and vinegar can be used to get rid of mildew and we have some wicked shower mildew but obviously, I don't want to use any harsh chemicals with the babies and our kitty around.
Thanks

I've been using Borax for years. It's totally safe and non-toxic....as far as I know. It doesn't give off any fumes, it really has no scent. I use it for everything from laundry to keeping the ants away (they don't like it). In a pickle, I use it to scour my sinks.

In a word: Yes!
What will probably work a bit better is non-chlorine bleach (aka hydrogen peroxide). While it can be toxic if swallowed - it is fine on the environment and you don't need much of it to bleach off those mildew stains. You can buy a small bottle at the health food store. I use Ecover brand.
Use gloves and toothbrush to paint it on the grout and tiles, then scrub lightly before rinsing with water. Give it a few minutes before you rinse.
And just keep it out of reach. But it doesn't really have any fumes.
