I am curious what things you put nutritional yeast into? Does it taste ok in a stirfry? I have just started going to a nutritionist who isn't vegan(couldn't find one) but who is very supportive and trying to help me meet my nutritional needs. Also, I can't find the link to the list of cereals, cookies, regular grocery items that are vegan-I know I've seen it before but can't find it tonight! She suggested eating fortified cereals to get B6 and B12 as well. Does this sound right? Thanks!

I make a great vegan mac n cheese with nutritional yeast and I put a few tablespoons into my scrambled tofu as well. I don't think it would go to well in a stir-fry because it would clump up. Anything that you want a cheesy taste to is a good candidate for nutritional yeast.

Warning: I don't remember where this came from so it may have to be deleted if someone knows!

If you put equal amounts of nut.yeast and toasted sesame seeds (plus a pinch of sea salt) in a processor.....Voila, fake parmesan cheese to sprinkle on everything from garlic toast to lasagna. I like it on popcorn, too.

I use nutritional yeast when I bread things. I grind up my stale/toasted bread, add herbs and powdered garlic and a few table spoons of nutritional yeast.

I also make a teriyaki sauce with Bragg, oil, fresh garlic, ginger, honey (or organic sugar) I simmer all of those ingredients and then add a few Tbs of nutritional yeast.

Also pop corn. I drizzle some oil (or butter) and Bragg and then shake over nutritional yeast.

Yum! I know that not everyone loves the flavor of nut. yeast, but I am a big fan!

I agree with the popcorn one - it is great on popcorn with a little salt. I also like nut. yeast on potatoes - baked, chunked & fried with vegis (like homefries). I tend to sprinkle a little on cooked vegis, too. It is good on cooked corn.

I also add nutritional yeast to my vegi pot pie. I cook up vegis (potatoes, carrots, broccoli & whatever else sounds good) in a little oil or Earth Balance. Then I add some thyme, other herbs that appeal at the time, and soy milk. Mix in nutritional yeast, then pour the whole concoction into a baking pan & cover with a rolled out, unbaked pie crust. Cut some slits into the crust (I only do the top b/c I am a bit lazy!) & pop it into the oven until the crust is brown & ready. It is quite good.

Christa, try nut.yeast on popcorn with a little garlic salt!

Mmm. That sounds good, too!

P.S. - I forgot that I add some crumbled tofu to my pot pie, too.

Nutritional yeast basically works on any savory type of food, but it will clump & stick together if you try to stir-fry it. It either needs to go on dry (as in popcorn), or get somewhat dissolved (as it does in the soy milk in pot-pie). I suspect that the problem with stir fry is that it would just turn into a ball of yeast & oil that is used in the stir fry.

There's a restaurant in Athens, GA called The Grit that uses nut. yeast to coat tofu, called a Golden Bowl. The have a cook book with many of their recipes, all wonderful.
