Have you ever suffered from self esteem issues? How do you handle, cope or heal from it? How has being a vegan helped you?

Hi there! To be honest, I've never suffered from low self-esteem, but being vegan has lifted the guilt that I would feel, making me feel good about myself to know that I am not harming any creature anymore. I also feel healthier and much more closer to my spirt. Together this all makes me a happier person, and much more confident in myself. :)

I've always suffered from self-esteem issues. What girl hasn't really? I logically know there is no reason for it, but can't help it. I don't even tell people this who know me because they think it's ridiculous. I think becoming vegan has helped me somewhat. I'm proud of myself for doing it, I have a clear conscience, and I like to think I'm toning up some and my skin looks healthier and feels softer. Now I'm not completely sure if the physical changes are physical or psychological, but I don't mind. I feel better about myself. I feel like I'm getting closer to the person I want to ultimately be- a compassionate person who enjoys life to the fullest.

Not sure if that helps you or not, but take care.

Thanks Sylver and Carla for your responses.
There's a vegetarian book out there, and now for my life I can't remember the title, figures, but in it the author discusses veganism.
One point that the author makes is that when animals are slaughtered they know what's coming and their adrenaline levels go through the roof. Cows and pigs for example have a very high level of fear adrenaline running through their system prior to the slaughter, whereas chickens a high amount of anger adrenaline.
I don't know if any of this is true or valid, but it makes sense.
I found that having been a vegetarian for well over 10 years now, I don't have the anxieties or angers that I used to have before (I ate more chicken than any other kind of meat).
But, I thought it was worth mentioning as I believe this can have a true impact on how we feel about ourselves. Not to mention not having our veins clogged with fat.
Excersize (though I abhor it) is also helpful in releases positive exhilaration into one's body to feel better, not just look better.
