I recently decided to become vegetarian and my parents don't agree. What should I do to show them that I am going to do this? Should I stop eating meat/dairy/seafood that they give me, or take another approach? Help would be appreciated!

thanks!

Heidi~ :)

Well first off, educate yourself. A lot of people may be opposed to a vegetarian/vegan diet just because they don't know enough about basic nutrition... you can be an unhealthy omni, and an unhealthy veg*n...

Also, here is a place to talk to some veggie teens... if you need more than just vegfam

But you have to be strong, if you know this is what you want for yourself, then you can do it. I was lucky that I had support, but I know not everyone is the same. Good luck

Just keep in mind when you are talking to your parents...approach them calmly and speak with respectfulness about their own eating choices. Otherwise, you will be talking to a big brick wall that will never come down.

I went vegetarian after I left home, so I didn't have to worry about this that much. But, I agree with the advice about educating yourself - and your parents, too, for that matter. They undoubtedly want what's best for you (in terms of your health), and they're probably worried about how much extra work it would be to cook another meal for you. You can read up on vegetarian nutrition, and learn to cook so you can take over some of the cooking chores from your parents. Show them how good a vegetarian meal is, and you might begin to win them over.
