Hi,
I'm Sammie and I'm new to the board.

I'm trying to find out info about the supplement CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), used to help with weight loss and possibly a reduction in cancer risk. I know it's a fatty acid naturally found in animal products, but I was wondering if anyone knows if the supplements on the market are from an animal source or not?

Thanks!

I haven't heard of CLA supplements. Your best bet is to look carefully at the bottles in the store, see if any of them say vegetarian. Then contact the company that makes them (their phone number should be on the bottle) and see if they contain any animal products.

Alternatively, contact the vegan vitamin manufacturers and see if they offer a CLA supplement.

I did a little bit of research on the site where I get my supplements (they have research-based articles on many of the supplements). I found that most sources of CLA (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/product_info.php?products_id=1299) are beef, poultry and eggs. However, corn oil is also a source of CLA, so you might be able to find a vegan supplement. You'd have to do some additional research. I took a cursory look at the CLA supplements on the site where I shop, and they all seemed to contain glycerin and/or gelatin. I'd look into a little more sine CLA does seem to be a very beneficial supplement if you are looking for something to help with body fat, insulin levels, and even cancer.
