For those celebrating Halloween, what do you have planned? Are you going trick-or-treating? Halloween party? What are your kids dressing as?

Last year I took Emily trick-or-treating and she (and I) had a great time. About 40% of the candy we got was vegan and I gave the rest to other people. Emily went dressed as a cat and just loved wearing her ears and tail. I thought she was so cute dressed that way that I kept putting her ears and tail back on for a week or so afterward. ;)

I love Halloween. This year, I think I'm going to take her to the mall and stroll her in the stroller. If I had her walk it would take a long time and she might dip her hand into that candy a little too much. Hard to take away a chocolate bar from a 2 year old. Know what I mean?

We have a pretty busy Halloween scheduled. Girl scouts will go to Halloween at the zoo, my kids are having their own Halloween party on 10/25. Easiest way to control what is at the party is to have one I figure. We will trick or treat in our little town on the actual holiday. The tough one will be the Boy Scout cookout. Hot dogs, etc., Yuck! I think we'll just go late to catch the games and hay rides. Others will probably be late too so shouldn't make my kids feel too weird. I am bringing apples so I know they'll have one thing they can eat later.

My friend and I are starting a new tradition for Halloween. We are the only two vegan families ( Pretty sure about it) in our city and it's non-existant to get vegan candy...so...we came up with the "Candy Fairy" Here's the story...kids want to trick or treat and eat the candy. Can't cause it's not vegan and corn free ( my son has a corn allergy.) So at night when everyone has gone to bed/left the room the candy fairies, who have been looking in the windows, come in to eat the candy. Now the candy fairies are present whenever there is candy around...how else do all the cookies go missing when everyone says they've only had one or two? :) Anyways, the fairies eat the candy and leave behind candy that is good for our bodies and corn free. We're pretty excited about it. It seems to work and since the kids (almost 2, 2, and 4) still get candy and feel that they're helping out the candy fairies everyone is happy about the situation. Also, the kids get a chance to get excited, about all the 'bad' things people hand out, in a good way. They get to have great memories just like we did of Halloween and we know they're safe from non-vegan stuff.
