I'm trying to get in contact with veggie and vegan teenagers in the UK, London area or anywhere, because I am trying to organise a one-day event for veg*n teens (12 - 18s). There seems to be very little happening in terms of real life events for veg*ns in this age group, I don't think Viva! have organised any youth gatherings for a while, and this is what prompted my idea, I feel there is a need for this and a lot of isolation for veg teens. I would like to do something to help young veg*ns feel less alone and support them in getting more active for the animals.
I hope to get the event organised to take place in about a year's time, the plan currently is to organise this at our home, with some help from one or two speakers, so that we could have some talks and workshops about issues of interest to veg teens, followed by a vegan bbq in the garden. If it was a big success we could even make it an annual event.
I would like to find first of all any young people who might be interested and secondly but very importantly any adults with the speaking/workshop-leading skills/experience who might like to be involved. I am aiming to find about between 6 and 12 teenagers to come along for the day, but if we get more interest than the number of ppl we can fit in at home we could probably book a small room/hall to hold the event instead.
I've also set up a Yahoo group for the purpose of organising this, the group is for young people and adults and I would like to hear ppl's ideas. For an invitation to the group you can email me, or join on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vegyoutheventuk (although if I don't know you, you will have to wait for me to approve you, with it being a group with young people I have to ensure security). Parents of veg teens very welcome also.
Can you help with speaking/workshops, or do you know someone who possibly can? Do you know any veg teens in the UK you can let know about this? Please pass on the word if you can, thanks,
Yours sincerely,
Lesley Dove
