Hi,
I'm curious to know how you guys view the advertising here at VegFamily. Does it annoy you? Do you find it helpful? Are you aware that all the companies who advertise sell vegan or parenting products? Are you aware that I don't allow non-vegan or non-parenting companies to advertise?
Do you guys think there is too much advertising? Do you notice the ads or tune them out?
Do you click on the ads? Do you buy from the companies who advertise here?
Do you have any questions about the advertising? Be honest. I am thinking of making some changes and want to know how things stand as they are.
Thanks!

I have noticed that the ads all fit in with our beliefs. They don't bother me. I almost bought some body care products but couldn't afford them at the time and then forgot about them. I would happily go through the vegfamily ads to buy products like Allison's Gourmet as long as I can remember to.

There is one ad which bugs me - it promises that you would NEVER have non-veg*n food at a restaurant again. When I checked out their site, they just had what amounted to lists you could carry with you so you would know what was veg*n or not. I'm just not sure how much good that would do. I think I've picked up on what I know is veg*n, but that doesn't mean that a restaurant wouldn't mess up or not tell you what was in something. And most non-veg*ns don't even think to check some of the ingredients we've learned to check.
Everything else I've seen and investigated has looked pretty good. I do drool over Alison's cookies, too, but haven't ordered them yet.
The ads aren't too intrusive. If you added pop-ups or ones that flash and move, those would be annoying.:)

Yeah, I will never put pop up ads or flash ads on this site. It would annoy me too! :)
Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming ladies!

I usually ignore the ads but I have noticed that they are all vegan. A few times I've clicked on an ad because something about it caught my eye but I"ve never bought anything. I'm so glad you don't have pop-ups or flash. I think the advertising is fine, it's unobtrusive but if one is interested, they can easily read the advert and click. The ads are vegan and of interest to parents. Can't think of anything that needs fixing :) .

Actually, I think this website is a model of how to design advertiser-supported websites! There are no pop-ups, the ads are pretty unintrusive, and they all (seem to) fit with the ethics of veganism. Other sites I go to have annoying pop-ups, ads that make noise or won't close, or ads that you have to click through to get to the page you want.
And I must say I've been very tempted to try those Shmookies...

Yes, please click on the ads and buy stuff. :)
Otherwise the advertisers go bye-bye, and if they all go bye-bye, then so does the website!

I usually only click on them when I'm searching for something specific. I have purchased a few things through the ads here... chocolates, vitamins, a book someone wrote... ;)

my eyes usually tune out ads, but now reading over the others' posts some of the stuff sounds familiar, so i think i have clicked on some before (like schmookies! those look good!) but now that you mention it i'll pay more attention to them... and maybe buy something if i decide i can afford it (which i can't.. but has that stopped me before...;) )

I'll be out of town at the Natural Products Expo for a few days, but keep the feedback comin. Very helpful!

I think the ads do a good job - providing information/products of value to those that would be attracted to this website (i.e. vegan). They are unobtrusive, which is wonderful (I have stopped visiting websites with lots of pop ups and where there is just too much advertising.
I have to say that although I have investigated some of the websites, I haven't bought much/anything. That is more a matter of location, though. I don't like buying from non-Canadian sites because I can never be sure what the end price will be and I have been zinged for additional charges (customs) when ordering things in the past.

I think the ads are colorful and they usually get my attention (especially if they are advertising sweets :D ). We bought our Vita Mix through the ad here. And someday I WILL break down and get some Allison's Gourmet cookies!
I am beyond thankful that there are no pop-ups here or ads that "drop down" if you accidentally roll over them with the mouse. Are those "flash" ads?
And I noticed right away that the ads were all vegan-oriented or parenting-oriented. I've clicked on most, if not all, of the food-related ads (those Goodbaker mixes look soooo yummy!) and some of the personal care items. So I like the ads and the way they are set up. No complaints from me!

Thanks Mabelkitty, great feedback.
I appreciate that you guys appreciate that there are no pop ups. I could be making a lot more money if I allowed pop ups, but there's no way I would annoy readers just to make money. I certainly wouldn't want someone to do that to me, so I can't justify doing it to someone else.

I like the lack of popups. I have clicked on many of the ads. Though I've not been in a financial position to buy anything lately I have created quite a wishlist! :D
I think your site is awesome, Erin.
Very informative and helpful.
