I just read an annoying answer in the August issue of American Baby magazine - a response to someone asking if it's ok for her toddler to be vegetarian. The doctor who responded said that "if you're a strict vegetarian, you may have to give her eggs and dairy." She went on to say that iron and zinc, although present in soy and other plant foods, are more readily absorbed into the body if they come from meat. I'm hoping that parents of vegans will write to them to explain that plenty of kids are growing up vegan without any animal products to supplement their diets.
I hate that people *still* think meat/dairy/eggs are the only way to survive and raise healthy children.
