Ok so my daughter is 1 year old and I am starting to slowly stop nursing, but my daughter hates soy milk and soy formula.
I have tride giving her half soy milk and breast milk, but she still hates it.
Has anyone ever had this problem.
She needs to drink something more than water now and I do not like to give her too much juice.

We just kept nursing! I can't figure out why society encourages us to give our children *breast* milk from another species - er, make that bean, in this case:p - when mother's milk continues to be exactly what our youngsters need! Ok, I got on my soapbox there, but you did ask!;)

Now that she's one years old she does not need any formula. She really doesn't need to drink anything but water. But if you want to give her a healthy drink, try a fruit smoothie. My husband also makes our kids this wonderful banana shake that they love.

1 frozen banana
2 tablespoons of peanut butter (you can skip this if you're concerned about allergies)
1 teaspoon of flax oil
Splash of maple syrup
Rice milk

Blend it all up (experiment with the amounts).

Doesn't she need some soy milk for calsium?

My kids have always like the regular Silk. Try it :)

I would experiment with different types of fortified milks (rice, almond, and the many brands of soy out there) but it's true as Erin said - she doesn't "need" to drink milk. Just make sure that you are feeding her a wide variety of solid foods that contain calcium.

I recommend looking at the "ask the dietician" archives for the VegFamily magazine.

She needs calcium, but where is it written that it needs to come from white liquids?

She can get calcium from other foods. :)

True about the calcium, but soymilk has so much more than that, including vitamin B12 and protein, plus that all important folic acid. Keep trying!

Maybe you could mix a little into her food to get her used to the taste.
Give her a few sips between sips of other things she already drinks.

My son is 16 months old and allergic to soy. He drinks rice milk, and has been healthy and gaining weight nicely. He takes a vitamin with his oatmeal for breakfast. Half a toddlers chewable crushed up. It's what his nutritionist suggested.
