I'm doing the holiday meal this year for the family. Can anybody recommend anything really special? All I can come up with is minstrone, lasagna, salad and some vegan cake I made. It just doesn't seem festive enough. Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of years ago I invited my family over for a vegan Hannakah. This was the menu:
Turkish Stew
Curried Chickpea Casserole
Green Beans in a Thai Peanut Sauce
Creole Corn
Salad
Sourdough Rolls
Vegan Brownies with Vanilla Soy Dream and Chocolate Ahlaska Syrup.
It got rave reviews. All of those recipes are in Lean, Luscious, and Meatless, my favorite cookbook.

I think I'm going to do Filo parcels, maybe with a spinach-tofu filling, plus a nut roast. Baklava is a really special dessert too.

On another thread I just recommended a seitan roast, the recipe for which is at Beverly Lynn Bennett's site, www.veganchef.com under the name "Unturkey Seitan Roast"... and for a dessert, my family adores Ron Pickarski's Chocolate Cream Couscous Cake (which also works well with carob instead of chocolate if you prefer) and which is a no-bake very simple recipe that tastes deluxe. We keep it for special occasions. (You can also find it several places on the web.)
