Does anyone have any recipes for baby food. Ds is 8 mths old and I'd like some ideas. Can he eat cous-cous/pasta yet??

How many teeth does he have? Do you think he could chew it up well enough?
We gave Emily grains at the 9 months mark. Up until then, she got fruits and veggies only. But she was really raring to go on the rest of those food groups. She's always been a fantastic eater. She'll eat anything.

He's 8 months with 4 teeth. What do others feed their babies? He still breastfeeds loads and through the night. We went veggie for 2 months as I thought this would be best but had a health scare when I found blood in his poo so went straight back to vegan- I feel happier anyway being vegan.:D

My DH bought me a great book for Christmas called "Organic Baby & Toddler Cookbook" by Lizzie Van. It's full of great recipes. There are a few meat recipes, but you can either adjust them to suit the vegan diet, or just skip right over them. For the most part, theere are tons of vegan recipes in the book. The recipes that do call for cheese or milk can be easily adjusted. I just find that the book has great ideas that I never would have thought of on my own.
Here is a recipe from the book that sounds yummie to me.
Vegetable and Coconut Korma
1tsp olive oil
1/2 small onion
1 small carrot peeled and diced
pinch each of ground ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric
2tsp tomato puree
1 small potato. peled and finely diced
1tbsp beans such as white or lima, canned or boiled, unsalted
2tsp flaked coconut
1/2c. of water
Heat oil in small pan over med. heat, Lightly fry the onion and carrot until soft, about 5 min.
Add the spices and tomato puree and heat for 3 min. stirring continuously. Put half of mixture in a bowl and set aside.
Add the potato, beans, coconut, and water to the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about 15 min.
Puree or roughly mash. Mix in the reserved vegetables adding extra water if a thinner consistency is prefered.
Hope your little one enjoys this recipe...if you choose to try it!

We won't feed any startches until Jacob is atleast 18months. Babies don't start producing ptyolin until then. Ptyolin is an enzyme REQUIRED to break down starches, and without a baby producing it they can't digest any starches.
He's not eating any solids yet, as he is only 4.5 months...but when he gets enough teeth to chew his own food we will start probably with fruits and then move on to veggies when he has the right teeth to chew them up. Fruits are the best thing for babies...just observe your child and see what food they automatically gravitate towards.

Babies have a naturally sweet tooth, which is why it's a good idea to introduce vegies first, or at least at the same time, otherwise they'll get a taste for sweet fruit and refuse their vegies, which are equally as important. I used to make up mashed vegies, combos such as potato/ spinach/ carrot, and later at about 10 months (I think! It was a few years ago!) I'd add mashed lentils. Pumpkin was always popular too. With fruit, pear is a good, low allergy option. I mixed it with organic baby rice and a dash of molasses.

Avocado is also a good first food. My daughter is intolerant to bananas but avocado was fine. Maybe the sweet tooth thing is a myth but that's the way I did it anyway, maybe it's just a coincidence but both my kids have always been great vegie eaters.
