I tried to post this once, but am not very tech-savvy. If this repeats, I'm sorry.

I'm thrilled to find this forum. Like cedarseven, I have a hard time relating to other new moms. I've been vegan for 5 years, and this is our first pregnancy. No grief from family or friends about our diet -- just curiosity.

I'd like to find any vegan moms in my area -- if you're in the Chicago area or NW Indiana, please holler!

Also, any tips on insomnia / anxiety would be most welcome. Sometimes I can't seem to turn off my brain...and warm milk is not an option.

Looking forward to "meeting" you all.

Hi Gina,

Welcome to the boards. How far along are you?

For insomnia, I do a meditation that I've been doing for years. Works every time. The trick is to put your mind on something else and keep it there until you fall asleep.

Did you look on our playgroup list for a vegan playgroup near you? Go to www.vegfamily.com/playgroups

I'm 15 weeks this Thursday...

I have checked for playgroups -- none in my area. Perhaps I'll start one, but we may be moving from south to west suburbs soon...

Am interested too in positive experiences people have had registering for gifts. We prefer eco-friendly, organic, or used items, not your standard Target fare. Any suggestions? People are asking us where we're registered...

I admit that I registered at the standard Babies R Us place, but I've noticed that's lots of online stores have registeries. I'm sure you can find some sort of natural baby type online store to register at. Then just put the web address in your shower invitations.

Hi Gina,

It's great to meet you!
I wish I lived in Chicago but alas i don't. A really good friend of mine does but she is neither a mom or vegan, sorry i can't help there. i'm sure you'll meet people through this site. Good luck!
My sister used to take some natural herbs to help her sleep, when i remember what it is i'll let you know.
as for registering for baby gifts, i am launching a website in about a month that will have clothes, gifts and silver jewellery, all made by me!!! I'm pretty excited, i'll be using organic cottons for all the baby stuff. Look for it near the end of February 2003 at www.cedarseven.com.
take care and good luck with your pregnancy,
my husband and i are still trying, and having fun.
