Dry skin

We've entered the dry skin season here in the midwest US (5 degrees F this morning). I limit baths and use lotion but my kids seem to have very dry skin right now. My 7yo ds knuckles were actually bleeding. Does anyone know if adding some flax oil or something like that would help any? I'll probably try it since it sure won't hurt them but I thought maybe some of you know something I don't. Thanks!

Mothers & Others for a Livable Planet Guide to Natural Baby Care mentions almond oil, apricot kernel oil, & avocado oil for baby skin, so it might be worth a try for your kids. Might feel a bit icky on the palm of the hand, but would probably help with the knuckles & create a barrier against the cold, dry air.
