hi Savannah, welcome to veg family! i love that you were able to connect dairy and the veal industry!! it's a concept that is lost on so many people. my sister once went to an office party and sat at a table with a dairy farmer that tried to convince her that his cows just magically started to give milk one day - no calves required. insanity. my sister coined it as "immaculate lactation" hahaha.

vegans seem to be all over the map on the honey issue, however my family doesn't consume it. there are a lot of honey bee horror stories to keep us away from it, like how producers will cut off the wings of the queen bee to prevent her from leaving the hive. although bees can produce a lot of honey, it is their honey and replacing it with a poor sugar substitute is exploitation of their labours. that's my honey rant! :D

Hi Savannah! I started my vegetarian to vegan lifestyle when I was your age as well. How is it working with your family?

I do label myself as vegan but I eat certain honey. There is a local bee company that specializes in locally-flowered honey of different types. They treat the bees really well, driving them to the different types of flowers, only taking one tenth of their honey, having only one beekeeper with some helpers, no smoking, etc. so I buy their honey at the farmer's market.

I do occasionally eat something at a restaurant that has honey in it but don't buy any other brands except this one that I know about.

haven't been on in awhile, still vegatarian! let's see, it's been hmm well, I remember the last time I acctually ate meat, but I think it was a bit later then my last birthday (I went to Outback *shudders*) so probably last February.

The biggest change I have noticed is my skin! I mean some people have told me I just grew out of it, but man it sure is clear, and before I was really battleing with adolesent acne.
I have also noticed I'm much leaner.

Best thing I could of done for myself!

About the honey I have thought about it alot, and I think it's ok, I mean all the bees realy make it for is so they can eat it during the winter, and well they don't have to worry about that with their keepers to keep them fed, any oppinions?
