View Full Version : The whole world vegan?

I've been thinking last night and I can't see how it would be possible for the whole world to go vegan. You know how they say if it did we would save so much of the earth and more people would have food. I was thinking about the peoples in the Arctic and the Antarctic where their main food is meat and there is no tofu or soymilk or vit. B12 supplement or in some places they don't even use money so they wouldn't be able to buy them anyway. I don't know how to justify my thinking or what to really think about it. I'm just stuck right there. I might be wrong, though. Any thoughts???

i believe it is completely impossible for certain races of people to be vegan, like those living in the Artic. generation after generation these people have been eating an almost 100% meat-based diet. switching to veganism would kill them, which i don't think any compassionate vegan would condone.

Thanks, you made me feel a lot better. I thought no one else thought about these things as they never come up in conversations.

Um... most of us came from generations and generations of meat-eaters, and we're clearly still kicking.

actually most of us came from generation after generation of hunters and gatherers. we ate a lot of plant foods, supplemented with whatever the men shot and come home with. being vegan is easy breezy for us. aboriginals living in the arctic and antarctic have nothing to gather but ice cubes. they could not survive switching to a vegan diet tomorrow.

Nobody lives in the Antarctic except for a small group of international scientists who are studying down there. They make food a big deal there and there is actually veggie and vegan food available to those who wish it. Other than that, it is completely inhospitable to mammals. Only birds live on the rocks/ice and there are some seals that live underwater.

I agree that it is not possible for quite a few groups of people to become vegan, and the only way it might is if climate change continues to occur at its present alarming rates.

It doesn't matter where you live. there is no such thing as a good excuse to murder animals. If there aren't enough vegan options where you live then find some way to move to somewhere where there is.
