I sent the following email message to a company named "MorningStar Farms". They currenly make vegetarian products and a couple of vegan items. Please feel free to cut and paste and use any of the message below in your own attempts to promote veganism.
***************************************
This is a request for you to convert your products into vegan products. I was a vegetarian 2 years ago, but now I am a vegan. As such, I stopped buying your products. I am aware that you have a couple of vegan items, but they are not enough to satisfy me, my husband, or my kids and this has
forced me to spend my dollar elsewhere. In addition, on an ethical level, I am making an effort to support only those companies whose values are for the most part in line with my own.
I think there is a general trend for vegetarians to become vegan. I speak from experience. Not only did my family and I do this, but almost every other vegan I know used to be a vegetarian at some time. Therefore, you are losing a part of your customer base each year. True, you are probably gaining new vegetarians as well, but you are also losing quite a few to veganism.
For argument's sake though, let's just assume that you aren't losing any vegetarians each year to veganism. Even if this were true, just think of all the new business you could get from all the current vegans and their future generations of families.
I understand that there are a couple of items that cannot be vegan, such as your egg entrees, but most can be easily converted as I have seen other companies do it, including "Lightlife - Smart Menu" and they are absolutely delicious!!
You may wonder then why I am requesting you to change your product if I can get vegan products elsewhere. One reason I guess is purely selfish. I'd like a greater variety of products to choose from. Another reason is that I currently have to go to two stores in order to get everything I need. It would be nice to just walk into Bakers or Wild Oats and be able to buy any of your product without worrying about the ingredients.
Of course, with any change, your company would need to spend a bit of money to change the product, but the financial rewards will be MUCH larger and lasting than the initial cost of the change. Besides, other companies are catching onto this trend, and you don't want to be the only one left behind.
In conclusion, converting your Morningstar Farm products to vegan products is a win-win situation for you. First, you will keep a stronger hold on your current customer base. Secondly, you will gain a new customer base.
Please seriously consider this request, as I will be the first in line to buy your products again if they are vegan.
