Hi! I live near Toronto, and go there often, and I was wondering at what stores do you find those vegan cheeses you speak of? I'd like to get my hands on some of those and give them a try. I have never seen vegan cheese, except for Tofutti better than cream cheese and I've never tried that yet. All the soy or rice cheeses at the stores near me have casien in it. Please let me know where you go to get them, and thanks in advance!
Take care.

ello Sylver,

I have been going to a place in Newmarket called Nature's Emphorium... it's pretty good, and I can find all my vegan needs there. Another favorite of mine is Noah's in Thornhill. I find Noah's a bit expensive and not nearly as wide a selection as Nature's Emphorium, but it may be closer for most people to get to.

What city do you live in? There should be at least "one" store where you can find vegan cheese around you.

Regards,

EricP

I usually shop at Noah's - it's very convenient for us. We have a TVA membership, so we get 10% off a lot of their stuff, which helps. Our local Loblaws has a pretty well-stocked natural foods section, too (only 1 vegan cheese), and the manager is open to getting in new products when I ask - given that he has limited space.

The Big Carrot also carries many products.

Lucy,

Your right about Loblaws... we also purchase many vegan foods (baby foods, etc) from their. I noticed many grocery stores are expanding their 'health' section, but unfortunately, I notice most aren't getting into Vegan foods and carry 'organic meats' instead.

Yeah, eww... "organic meat" as health food. I hate looking around a health food store and running across the meat. Sickening. I'd love a store that didn't sell meat of any kind. Sigh. Even better, a purely vegan store. I'd love that.

A purely Vegan store would be amazing, but I would probably spend WAY too much money there

Lucy, if you can make it up to Newmarket, you should really check out Natures Emporium... it's pretty big... I would say about 8x the size of Noah's (or even bigger). They have a vegan bakery (yum) and juice bar in it. Their selection is wonderful and like I mentioned before, we pick up most of our vegan needs there.

EricP

I'll keep it in mind. Our local Noah's is the original, so it is pretty big (well, stuff full of stuff), and has a vegan deli bar in it, too. The Big Carrot is huge, and has a deli, but we don't get out to it too frequently. Noah's is just 2 subway stops away, so it is our usual place.

I sometimes day dream about opening a vegan store/deli/restaurant. My brother-in-law (a fan of my cooking) tells me that if I had one, more people would become vegan. He's very sweet (and the other family vegan).

That's nice of your brother-in-law, and he's probably right. Do a little research, you may just become the biggest and best restaurant in Toronto!

I forgot WHICH Noah's you shop at... so I guess the '8x bigger' thing is just an exaggeration now
