Hello there!
My name is Mandy, I come from Cambridge UK! I have been a strict vegan for nearly 4 years but was more or less vegan for some years before that! I am mum to an energetic, healthy, normal sized daughter Iona (20 months) who has been vegan since birth! I am very lucky because I am married to Tariq who has been vegan for over 10 years so we have none of those, 'should she shouldn't she drink milk' arguments!! Even my family seem to have come round to the idea when they see that she hasn't withered away through lack of animal products!!
Although we have no problems with Iona wanting to eat milk/dairy at the moment because she doesn't really know it exists (oh how nice to live in her world!!) I'm a bit concerned because we are about to start a mother and todlers group where they provide a lunch. so I am going to have to take our own! She is used to trying a bit from our plate whenever we eat with her, so I can forsee her trying to steal sausage rolls from everybody else!!
I'm glad I came across this site because I don't really know any other vegan parents with kids the same age! So I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Wow!! What a long intro! I have bored you all for long enough!!
Take care everyone!!
Mandy

It's very nice to meet you Mandy. Welcome to the boards.

Are you going to be with her at the playgroups? If so, that will make things a lot easier for you.

Hi Mandy
welcome to the boards! I've heard Cambridge is a beautiful place. My name is sophie and I'm mother to Jasper (6) and Lily (nearly 4) with #3 due in about 3 weeks. They've all been vegan their whole little lives.
I think your daughter will cope fine with the situation, it'll be her first experience of eating differently, and there will be lots more! If you tell the other parents about your diet it might be easier, then no-one will slip her anything unwanted, and maybe some people will even try to bring vegan food. But as long as you keep her occupied with her own yummy vegan food there should be no problem. Good luck! See you round,
