My son is 28 mos old and has never been sick before other than a runny nose a few times. He just self weaned 12 weeks ago when I was 9 weeks pregnant (maybe the milk changes caused it, but we were only nursing once a day, because a month before I got pregnant we weaned from 2 to once a day).

Anyway, now weaned he got the Croope (sp?) last month and currently has a stomach bug. For the Croope, he was fine, no fever just a bad cough and difficulty breathing so I used steam treatments. He was better in 3 days. But this stomach bug has me worried. He has no hunger, and is not drinking water or chamomille tea as I have been trying to give him. He only wants soy or oat milk which would be bad for his stomach. I have been trying to feed him brown rice (plain) dry toast, and banannas. He is barely eating or drinking, and upset when he can't have his favorites.

What can I feed him or give him to stop the diareaha? Any ideas? is fever is gone and he is acting fine except for his lack of hunger, not drinking and diareaha. Thanks. Veganmama

coincidentally, I was just reading up on this last night.

My daughter was having a strange bout of loose stools but she was eating and drinking well so we didn't do anything but keep sugar away from her.

However, I was reading that if the child is not eating and drinking normally you've got to get him rehydrated. I think Pedialyte is vegan (double check) and would probably appeal to him. Since it's been a few days, i would definitely give it because dehydration is going to be really bad.

I read the indgredients on it and it "appears" to be vegan, but lots of chemicals, etc. Not my first choice BUT, my SIL had some and my DS took only a few sips before rejecting it. He normally drinks soy milk, oat milk and rice milk. So I just picked up YU Rice Milk because the only indgredients are filtered water, organic brown rice, and oil. I know oil isn't the best, but I'm thinking there is so little of it in there because it dosen't taste oily. Normally my son refuses juice (other than a few sips) and only drinks water occassionaly and when he FEELS like drinking it. You know, typical toddler. If I want him to drink it he won't!

I stopped at the health food store and could find nothing in terms of medicine. I hope someone here has dealt with this because I am getting insecure in my ability to keep him hydrated. I just don't want him to end up needing an IV. Geeze I hope that is just my fear talking. Maybe this rice milk will bind him up. He did eat a bananna today, but not much else and this is NOT like him. Thanks Erin. VM

Someone once told me that blueberries are good for both constipation and diarrhea, would your child drink his favorites diluted?...let us know what works and good luck.
