Thank goodness I'm Vegan!

Number of US Medical Schools: 125
Number requiring a course in nutrition: 30
Nutrition training received by average US physician during four years in medical school: 2.5 hours

Most common cause of death in the US: Heart attack
How frequently a heart attack kills in the US: Every 45 seconds
Average US man's risk of death from heart attack: 50%
Risk for average US man who avoids the meat-centered diet: 15%
Risk for average US vegan man: 4%

If this doesn't convince people to switch to being vegan, I don't know what will :(

Regards,

EricP

Ain't it great?

That's why when people say, "Why do you want to be vegan?"

I retort with, "Why do you want to have a heart attack?"

Shuts em right up. Makes some people think.

It may make some people think, but not with my co-workers... they think I made those numbers up.

Hey, thanks Eric! I plan to gently toss this information at my husband when he comes home (or sometime when he seems more receptive than the end of his 12 hours at work perhaps). He has high blood pressure, his mom had a couple heart attacks, the last of which caused her death, & his father's side is full of heart problems. Needless to say my husband & his family are omnivorous, heavy on the meat. His health problems have increased quite a bit in the few years I've known him (he's now in his mid-30's), & while we set limits on our dietary "discussions" in order to avoid divorce court, I commented the other day that he ought to "experiment" with a vegan diet for just 6 months to see how it might make him feel. (He started getting migraines last year too.) He admits to really enjoying vegan food, & I have always thought he clings to his omnivorous diet for family-related comfort/sentimentality reasons above all else. Hopefully my little dare will work! I have gently mentioned on occasion in the past that I would like our children to know him, so I think at least subconsciously he knows he needs to change his diet one way or another pretty soon.

Great thinking Molly!

If your "dare" works, please let the rest of the VegFamily ladies know so they can use it on their loved ones.
