How can I ensure that my one year old is getting enough of those fatty acids? Can you recommend a supplement?

I am trying to transition my son from formula to rice milk. We have also introduced some solids- he is a big fan of pureed vegetables- particularly carrots! But... I want to be sure that he has complete nutrition...and resources are hard to come by from the pediatrician when your child is not drinking cow's milk.

Nettabug... do you have a copy of Becoming Vegan? Great book with excellent sources of vegan nutrition for kids.

Also, check out my book Raising Vegan Children in a Non-Vegan World. (http://www.vegfamily.com/raising-vegan-children/index.php?src=forumpost)

If your child is one year old, he can be eating from every vegan food group. Get enriched rice milk (Rice Dream has a good one) that contains calcium, B12, and D. And foods high in fat for babies include avocados, canola oil, olive oil, nut butters, and tofu.

I wanted to let you know that there are some oil blends on the market that are created for this purpose. The one I know of is Udo's oil. It is made by a company called Flora. They can be added to drinks or even on toast or baked potatoes instead of margarine. For a child your son's size, you could even just give it in a dropper. Hope this helps.
