Hi to all. I am new to this board. For about the past two months I have been visiting the board and have been enjoying reading your posts.

I am 16 weeks pregnant right now. :) My question is , Have any of you had a really bad cold and sinsus infection while pregnant? I despritely need some advice as to what to do to ease the pain of the sinsus infection. I am into day number two and the second night of no sleep. My sinsus and teeth are just throbing. :( I have read in my pregnancy books about sinsus infection and it mentions seam. I have put hot washcloths on my face and that helps temporary for only a couple minutes. :( I have been taking Tylenol and it doesn't seem to help at all. I am at a loss to what to do. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have on improving my sinsus situation.

Thanks,
Tamara

Hi Lonecrow,

congrats on your pregnancy! I'm 21 weeks myself.

Here's what I would try:

1. Sleep sitting up, propped against pillows.

2. Steam treatments. Stand over a sink with a towel over you and the sink and run the hot water. Do this often throughout the day.

3. Drink and eat hot liquids which will help loosen the stuff in your nose.

4. If the infection is bad and doesn't go away on it's own or get better in like 5-7 days, an antibiotic may be necessary. There are antibiotics that are safe during pregnancy.

5. Drink tons of water to help your system remove toxins.

6. Do visualizations... imagine your white blood cells attacking the infection or imagine a cool water wash going through your body and removing all the toxins.

Good luck to you. I hope you feel better very soon. It sucks being pregnant and sick!

I have had this same problem during both of my pregnancies. I used LOTS of garlic. Garlic tabs, garlic in food. Garlic is a natural antibiotic. I also took extra vitamin C to help the immune system. There are some acupressure points at the curve where the eyebrow meets the nose. Also massage cheek bones and above eyebrows. These spots may be tender. Do not apply pressure too hard so that it hurts.
This may sound strange, but if you happen to be lactating from another child, express some and with a dropper put it up your nose (lay upside down so that it stays for a few minutes) It can help clear the sinuses and help fight it off.
I know there is more, but I can't think of it right now. I will post again if it comes to me.
