View Full Version : Granola Bars?
Does anyone have a recipe for vegan granola bars? All of the ones I can find call for eggs and I am nervous about using my egg replacer in them in case it just makes a mess.
Thankyou, Tina

I don't have a recipe (mainly because I'm a terrible cook) but I seem to remember a recipe on the back of the Grape Nuts box wehre you mix the cereal with peanut butter and form into bars and such. It sounded yummy.
Hopefully someone else will have an idea for you.
Thankyou for your response. It does sound very yummy. I will have to look to see of it's still on the boxes.

Just a warning - I remember reading somewhere recently that Grape Nuts were no long vegan. One of the vitamins was of animal-origin. I don't eat Grape Nuts (although I was addicted to them in the mid-1980s), so I haven't followed up on it, but you might want to if you are eating them or want to.

Lucy,
Do you remember if you read that Grape Nuts were not vegan in a chat forum, or an article...
This is very interesting, because Grape Nuts are placed in high regards by many vegans... let's hope they haven't changed their recipe.

Bummer! I don't eat Grape Nuts often, either, but it would be nice to know if they are vegan or not. Maybe someone could call the customer service # on the box & ask if the vitamin(s) are animal derived if someone has any at home. I don't have any here.

Wish I could remember where I read it for certain, but I can't. I'm leaning towards the veggies united forums, but I'm really not sure. If it's true, it is too bad. I like grape nuts, and would introduce them to my daughter. If anyone gets further info, please post it.

I sent Post an email asking about the cereal. We'll see if they respond and I'll let you know what they say.

I used to love Grape Nuts too, but I nixed them for the hydrogenated oils (I think). But of course, that doesn't mean they're not vegan!!
edited to add: I checked out a box at the grocery store and I was mistaken about the hydrogenated oils. Unless the vitamins are animal-derived, they sure appear to be vegan...

I finally bought a box of Grape Nuts and called Post on their 800 number. The customer service rep I spoke with said that Grape Nuts contain "no animal by-products". She wasn't able to confirm the source of the D vitamins, but she did reiterate that they wouldn't state "no animal by-products" if it had any. For what its worth:)
