Easter is coming up (hard not to notice with all that chocolate and toys in the stores!) so I was wondering what (as a vegan) you do with/for your children? Do they notice the difference of how non-vegans incorporate eggs etc. in the celebration? How do they react?

With my daughter, she is old enough (5 years) to know and understand that she will not get chocolate or do anything with eggs (unless plastic or other material) etc. I have not seen a single Easter chocolate that is vegan, at least not yet! We have always set up an Easter egg hunt for her, but instead of chocolate eggs, we will buy some Easter candy and put them in little candy bags. She will go hunting for the little candy bundles.

What im doing this year (first easter as Vegan instead of vegetarian) is decorating the plastic eggs with my daughter and making the candy myself. you can make carob covered nuts (if they arent allergic to nuts) or use this recipe

1 1/2 pounds raw cane powdered sugar
3 C peanut butter
1 stick soy margerine
12 oz. carob chips
1/2 inch slice paraffin

Directions:

Mix powdered sugar, peanut butter and margerine. Make balls (1/2 in). Melt carob chips and paraffin. Dip balls in carob. Put on wax paper to cool and dry. Place in container. Store in cool place.

didnt go vegan until about oct last year and my daughter is almost 9 so she understand everything. for younger kids, i would imagine thats hard.

There are about two kinds of vegan easter eggs available here, they are not particularly nice though. My 6-year old gets really excited about easter, so what we usually do is, my partner makes chocolate eggs using a mould that we bought a few years back, then he fills them with nuts and raisins, then we wrap them up nicely and hide them in the garden. It's a bit of work, but worth it!
