My poor wee man, aged 4 weeks, has got a nasty nappy rash on his bottom that has turned out to be thrush. My other children never got this so I have no experience with it, has anyone else?
I have an anti-fungal cream but I hate to use it after such a healthy pregnancy with no toxic substances coming anywhere near my baby. My partner wants to try manuka oil (New Zealand tea-tree) first, I have started using this but need to make a decision about the anti-fungal, what would everyone else do?
I just want to make him better but not harm his fragile system.

Emily got a yeast infection in her gential area when she was like 1 year old. Freaked me out! I tried all kinds of things to make it go away naturally, she was really suffering. Finally I opted for the over the counter stuff and it was gone in 24 hours. Boy was she happy. I don't regret using it because her suffering was terrible.
I say, do waht you have to to get it gone. Your child is already so much healthier and toxin-free than 99% of other children. If you can find a natural remedy that works, do it. But if not, don't hesitate to use the other stuff.
Good luck!

Tessa, my younger daughter, got thrush as an infant as well. I can't remember exactly what I used, but we did get rid of it w/out using the prescribed meds from the dr. I know that the remedy that I used came from the book "The Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year." Sorry not to be of more help. Good luck!

Tessa's thrush was in her mouth, though, not on the bottom. Forgot to mention that!

Thanks for the advice.
I ended up compromising- I used the manuka oil with water to wash the area and then applied the cream, and yay! His bottom is all better now, it only took a couple of days.

Oh, I'm so glad he's all better. I hate it when my kid is suffering in any way.

i got thrush in my mouth about 5 years ago after i got my tongue pierced because i kept it too clean. too much rinsing with mouthwash killed a bit too much of the bacteria that your mouth needs and allows thrush to thrive. i just stopped using the mouthwash and rinsed with salt water instead. and it went away after a while. it is not the least bit painful it just feels gross. but im sure this is not how your baby got it i just felt like postin somethin
