Is there vegan margarine? My daughter still uses a brand with mono and dyglycerides. We have looked and every store brand has it.
Being that I make everything we eat from scratch, we save money by avoiding co-ops, the ones here all sell meat too, so there is no difference to me. Do co-ops carry pure vegtable oil margarines?

The two that I know of are Willow Run soy margarine and Earth Balance.

The best tasting vegan margarine the Earth Balance brand, hands down. It tastes the closest to the real thing, and it works wonderfully in recipes. You can use it like real butter, and it's perfect on toast. Trust me, we tried 'em all before we found this one. I'm looking at the container right now, and there's no website, but there's an American 1-800 number. 1-800-568-9300.

Earth Balance margarine is the best. Melts wonderfully and very tasty. It's $3.15 at my HFS but sometimes my they will have it on sale for $1 off - wish it was freezable.

I guess for some Earth Balance could be the best but I like my margarine harder, so Smart Balance light is best for me.

I prefer Earth Balance because it has no GMOs, and because it doesn't, if I remember rightly, contain any hydrogenated oils. It tastes good too. And seems to bake well.

You're right, Teejay, I forgot to mention that of the vegan margarines, there are only a few that are actually healthy with no hydrogenated oils or sneaky milk products, like casein.

There are many vegan products out there that aren't necessarily the healthiest products, and I find I have to be vigilant about reading labels and getting things without hydrogenated oils, etc. It can be a chore sometimes, but to me it's always worth it to see my family being the healthiest it can be.

I use Earth Balance.

Karen, you can freeze Earth Balance. I always stock up when it is on sale and store the extra tubs in the freezer. When the one in my fridge is running low I just pop one from the freezer into the fridge.

I've been using Hain Unsalted Safflower Oil margarine. It comes in sticks as opposed to tubs so it's easy to measure for baking. Anyone heard of it or used it? It has no milk rpoducts like whey or casein, but I'm not sure about mono/di-glycerides?? What are these from??

What are mono and dyglycerides? Where do they come from? My margarine has them and I thought it was vegan.

Yemenmocha,

The glycerides in your margarine may or may not be animal derived. What brand are you looking at?
