Hi everyone! I don't post here much but I am hoping someone might be able to help me.My son is almost 2 and for the past 3 months he has had a bad rash around his mouth and a little on his hands, feet and belly.I've tried 3 different creams from the dermatologist and none worked so now they want to put him on antibiotics.I would like to avoid that if I can.I've been suspecting that it is something he is eating, possibly dairy. He eats lots of cheese and yogurt(I am not to happy about it but he is very picky and these are the only foods I can get him to eat).Has anyone heard of dairy causing a rash like that? Also,do you know of any decent vegan cheese and yogurts?I haven't had much luck with finding any he(or I) likes. Thanks!

I'm not sure if dairy will cause a rash like that, but it sounds like maybe an allergic reaction. I don't know.
As to the other questions, though... I can help you with that.
Vegan Singles from SoyCo (Galaxy Foods) is good for grilled cheeses.
And www.imearthkind.com has a fantastic totally meltable vegan cheese.
Soy yogurts... myf avorite is Whole Soy. Other people like Silk, but I like Whole Soy best. Try that.
As for him only liking cheese and yogurt... let them disappear from your home for a while. Feed him other things. He won't starve himself.
Good luck to you. Hopefully some others will have advice as well.

Thanks for the responses.I actually just made a 30 min. trip up to a co-op I've never been to before and they had tofutti cheese, which he loves and silk yogurt which he doesn't.I did though.I've tried Whole Soy and he didn't like that. So,I am pretty excited that he liked the cheese, which is his favorite.I am just going to eliminate dairy and see what happens to the rash, but even if that's not the problem,it will be good to get rid of it because I don't want to be giving it to him anyway. It's just so hard saying no to him!

Has the dermatologist actually determined what the rash IS? I was treated countless ways for a condition that was misdiagnosed (& undiagnosed by some doctors) for a couple years because they all just kept throwing medications at me to "try" instead of taking the time & making the effort to find out what the problem really was. Anyway, it sure sounds like it could be an allergic reaction, could be a dairy problem, & even if it's not related of course he's better off dairy-free, so that's a positive change regardless. I just wanted to encourage you to look for a new doctor if this one doesn't seem to be doing his/her job to the best of his/her ability. Good luck! Glad you're finding some good dairy alternatives. :)

Just an update,it's been 24 hours scince my son had dairy and I swear his rash is almost gone.I took him to work today and people couldn't believe it.So,it looks like it was the dairy after all!And about the derm.,he hasn't a clue what the rash is from.He said he was"baffled"(not a word you want to hear from a doctor). He was pretty reluctant to think it might be something he was eating. But maybe he was wrong.Hopefully I won't have to keep my next apointment.

Oh, that's interesting! Probably was the dairy. Keep us posted and let us know if it comes back.

Before I stopped drinking milk, I got similar sounding rashes all the time. I got the same baffled responses from doctors. I gave up milk almost 4 years ago, and I have not had any skin problems whatsoever.
