I have been using the www.fitday.com site since I saw it posted on this board recently to monitor my protein and calorie intake during my pregnancy. Ok..I am running into a bit of difficulty... like today..I had (shame on me) 7-8 mini vegetable spring rolls taht are filled w/ tofu, cabbage, carrots, rice noodles, black mushrooms, onions, sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder and sesame oil. HOW on earth do I register this??

Also..I noticed something that doesnt look right to me...if you register having eaten 1 C of mexican beans (pintos) it registers a high number for protein..yet if you register it as 1 C mashed mexican beans (pintos) for sucha s in a bean burrito..it registers a lower number for protein..that for some reason doesnt sound right to me..seems like if I eat 1 C of mashed beans I would consume more beans than I would have consumed if I had eaten 1 C of whole beans. Right? Or is my thinking worng? I even have to break my burritos down by keying in the flour tortilla (diameter) and then approx how much beans and then approx how many veggies I added. When I try to key in a "fast food " burrito it shows up with less protein and asks if I had 2 pieces of burrito.

Any help would be appreciated? How do you key in your meals on fitday.com? It is a wonderful site!!! I am very thankful for it..but am trying to work out a few kinks in my head..rofl

Thanks in advance!
Alice

I like the fitday site alot, but I have the same problems on a daily basis. I am sure your worries about the eggrolls are long gone, but in the future I think I would just try to find an entry for veggie eggrolls and then add in the approx amount of tofu separately. Maybe rice noodles too?

As far as it not being completely accurate, no it's not. But I think it's close enough to still be valuable. If I journal and use a food value book or packages to count, and also do fitday, there is always a discrepancy but it's normally minimal.

I use fitday a lot and i usually just end up adding a "custom" food...i do this with practically everything i eat..that way i know my totals are exact. Pretty much, i only use the fitday nutrition info for things like non-canned vegetables, or fruit. If i'm eating spring rolls or veggie burgers i enter my own info. Yah, it's tedious, but you gotta do what you gotta do :)

It's my understanding that when you add data from custom foods into the fitday database, you make it available to anyone else who also uses it! So, the more folks who take the time to enter foods, the more information that will be available to all!

And that's wonderful!

i checked to see if the listing that i added were available for anyone to see (by using my husbands account and searching for custom foods i added, such as Yves veggie slices). and they weren't...

so i guess they aren't added for everyone to see, but that WOULD be cool, huh?? :)

It would be wonderful if the customized foods list was available for everyone :-/

I do have a question though...I have been watching my protein intake..my midwife is concerned considering I am her only vegan patient..lol..anyway..I eat LOTS of dried beans and lentils anyway.
But I have a question about the protein measurement quoted on fitday.com for dried lima beans. It says for dried, no fat added in cooking 1 cup yield is 39protein. Does this sound right??? I searched on google and only came up with 15 protein per cup dried limas. What do you think?? I cant see limas havignmore protein than lentils.
HELP!!!

Capersmama, I looked in Becoming Vegan and lima beans aren't listed:o They show lentils at 17.9 grams protein. The highest protein-containing legume they list is soybeans at 28.6g. These are cooked.

Here's a link to the USDA database. You'll find out MORE than you want to know, LOL, but it's a good resource!

I had never heard of this site until it was mentioned here. I think it's so cool how you can list everything you eat and do and it totals it up for you. I don't eat so much processed food so I've had to add in a lot of custom items. It's funny.. I was taking the nutritional info off a jar of Eden Organics sauerkraut and plugging it in and when I was done, it said the info wasn't correct. Now, either their system is screwy, or EDEN is not labelling their product correctly.

I think what I'm going to do (since we cook a lot of the same meals a lot) like (kale and lentils) (collard greens and pintos with tempeh) etc, that I'll individually add these nutrients up and then label it so that way when I eat it again, I can just select that custom food.

By the way, my wife made vegan reuben sandwiches the other night. I tried logging them into fitday. Boy what a hassle. But the sandwiches were delicious!!!
