Just a little self promotion :) - the upcoming issue (November/December '03) of Mothering magazine includes an article that I wrote on Group B Strep. I just got my copy in the mail yesterday.

Christa, congratulations! I'd love to read it, but I don't subscribe. Do you know if it will be on the website?

I don't know if it will be on the website, but it does seem that they post most of the articles in their current issue on their website. If not, let me know if you really want to read it (personal msg me) & I could email it to you. It would probably only be of major interest to pg women/spouses or people who are planning more kids.

I used to be the webmaster for Mothering and they used to put up the articles but not until the issues were a bit older, so as not to cannabalize their sales. I'm not sure what they do with them now because I know they have a lot of web-only content.

So when are you gonna come write for VegFamily, huh? ;)

That makes sense that they wouldn't want everyone to just go read stuff online, Erin.

I have been a bit tight on time since I started working half time in September. It is the most that I have 'worked' since the girls were born. However, I would eventually like to move more toward doing something that isn't for an agency that is so tied to the USDA, dairy council, etc. Although my job doesn't involve dairy promotion (just getting preschoolers to eat a more varied diet), there are some aspects of my department that I can see will have the potential to create conflicts for me!

So... I may be looking to write more for the vegan/vegetarian sector, or who knows what in the future! I have some article ideas in mind that I may pitch to Vegetarian Times, or something when I find the time! Although I may have gotten an inflated idea of how easy it is to get an article accepted since the one w/ Mothering is the first & only article that I have ever submitted to a magazine :)!

Christa, I'm glad that I took some time to read these older posts, because Strep B is a subject I am very much interested in. I'm going to get that issue of Mothering tomorrow!

I went through hell with my son's birth because of the Strep B issue. I refused antibiotics and the hospital basically held us hostage for two days to perform tests on my sweet little boy. Of course everything was fine, and I swore to never again darken the doors of a hospital for any future births. Our midwives were very understanding and accepting of our non-invasive choices, but hospital policy could not be altered. I am looking forward to hearing what you had to say on the matter. Mothering is my absolute favorite parenting magazine.
