I am sooo aggrivated. My step father has had his prostate cancer return even though he had it removed. Anyhow...I was doing a search on the web for some dietary help for him (yes he is still a meat eater "but not much" (as he and my mom like to say <sigh>) He has been doing the radiation treatments and its caused diarrhea and general upset stomach.
I ran across this site( http://www.healthatoz.com/atoz/OncologyCenter/nutrition.html )and it just really aggrivated the stew out of me. It suggests that cancer patients undergoing all the various treatments eat a high protein and fat diet (including cheeses, fish and fatty snacks)! Can you believe this? It is my understanding that just this sort of diet may be responsible for the cancers in the 1st place. How can it be suggested these people who are going through all the treatments "add" to the trouble?
Sorry..just had to blow off some steam here.
I am asking for prayers for him and his beating this thing again. Please pray that he will give the Essiac Tea and Colloidal Silver a try...he insists they havent been "proven" To my knowledge radiation hasnt been proven either. Its all experimental and results depend on body make up and diet.
Thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear this. It's maddening when you feel you can help your family members and they are listening to someone else!

My husband just finished reading an amazing book that you may want to read. This is the book I would reach for if I was diagnosed with cancer.

It's called Sick and Tired by Dr. Robert Young. One thing he talks about is cancer, saying that cancer is just like mold growing on cheese, but in the case of the human body, cancer is a tumor growing on an organ. He says, "If you cut the mold off cheese, it will regrow in time. You've got to put that cheese back in the refrigerator so it doesn't go moldy so fast." In essence, cutting out tumors doesn't change the underlying reason the cancer developed in the first place so it will come back eventually unless a person changes his eating habits.

He goes on to explain exactly what a person should be eating to avoid growing moldy cancer cells on your organs. A real eye-opener!

My prayers are with you!

Thanks Erin!
It really does make sense to make a dietary and lifestyle change if you are diagnosed with cancer..but for some reason..my step father doesnt seem to agree..he is a "Ill do what the dr says" guy <sigh> and its maddening! He is more willing to pop a pill than to make a dietary change or try herbal treatments that have waaaay less side effects than the other treatments..and they have about the same success rates.
I will suggest the book you mentioned to my mom. I only wish they werent so into "the dr knows all" mentallity. And the dr hasnt even suggested a dietary change. The dr apparently assumes that since my step father was diagnosed with diabetes he has made a radical diet change. WRONG! :-(
Oh Im just so mad that my mom has to go through this again. My daddy died 9 years ago with brain cancer..and now her new husband is diagnosed and not making what I see as a real effort to beat this thing. My mom believes its his choice to treatment but she is the one that has to watch the effects helplessly.
Sorry for ranting here. Thanks for reading.

I fully understand where you're coming from. When my mom went in for her triple bypass I was appalled that after the surgery they fed her eggs and bacon. AND she ordered it from the menu herself! "Well if the doctor says it's okay to eat it, it MUST be!" So frustrating!

People who are "do as the dr. says" are, unfortunately, doomed to get the results the average person gets. There's nothing you can do but watch helplessly as they let their life be determined by someone else.

My friend's husband has had a major problem with cancer for years, he's been brought to the point of sure death, coma, survived and is still eating sausages and refuses to eat fruits and veggies. SO frustrating, especially when they insist they are eating so well.

You can lead the horse to water but you can't make them drink. It's hard, I know, to watch.

I have heard from close friends that grape juice, if drank daily can reverse cancer. Also tomato and other fruits and veggies.
I am so sorry.

Have you heard of Dr. Day? She is a M.D. that has stepped out of mainstream medicine because of its unhealthy practices and claims the body can heal itself if given the chance. She outlines the steps to take in her videos, but she also has some info on her website. Of course, your stepfather has to want to listen. Anyway the website is
http://www.drday.com/

You should check it out. It is interesting. Dr. Day will also be appearing on The Jeff Rense Show Wednesday, November 27, 2002 - 7:00 - 10:00 pm (Pacific)

See website for details:

Good luck to you and your familly. I will say a prayer for you.

Thanks Roxx!
I will be checking the links out that you sent. As for my step father :-( He just finished up his 30th and final dose of radiation therapy. His original PSA number (if I understand correctly) was 4.9 and now his number is 4.6 ..I must be missing somethign because that doesnt seem like a big reduction to me..and my mom seems to think (because the dr told her) that its gone now. :-/ does anyone know what a good psa # is? so I can compare?
My step is still against any alternative treatments yet seems ...umm..almost accepting of the fact that the cancer will most likely come back..yet wont alter his diet or even try alternative things..It makes me so darn mad!

Anyways..thanks for the links.I will save the info for myself to have on hand for if I run into someone else with this problem whose head isnt quite as thick! <grin>
