This is a long shot, but........ any of you vegans happen to have been or cared for a Hodgkin's disease patient? I'm tired of all the cancer pamphlets telling me to feed her lots of meat and milk and eggs and cheese and dairy-based protein drinks. Just looking for a little vegan medical support. (She is an adult by the way, in her 30's, not a child.) I know my nutrition facts pretty well, but some adjustments are needed when somebody has no appettite and is nauseas and in pain. She is not vegan but has been thinking about it and is interested in it, and it certainly would be healthier for her while she's trying to get well. Any advice? Anyone know of a good vegan-friendly Hodgkin's/cancer/health website or book? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Molly

I am sorry to hear someone you care about has Hodgkins. My sister who is 50 is presently in the battle of her life with NHL which is Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. She was and still is very overweight and it worries me. I have tried to gently nudge her into eating healthier but she says she is too nausiated. I have lost over 45 lbs in the year since I became a Vegan and am trying so hard to set a good example for her and the rest of my family. Sometimes it is very frustrating.

When my Father in law had Cancer he would eat nothing but beans, rices, soups and non-meat stews that his wife would make. Often she would blend or puree them like baby food. I think food in general makes Cancer patients ill so if they can eat just a little of anything good you are doing good.
Try the Cancer Society or perhaps a Naturalpath or Nutritionist. I know smoothies go down well for anyone who is sick, they are refreshing and soothing.

My heart goes out to you and your friend, God Bless

Hi Molly,

I personally know someone who was told to go home and die because her brain cancer did not respond to any medical treatment. I told her to go on a vegan diet and after 3 months on the diet, went back to work. It has been 9 years now since the diet change and is still cancer free. George Malkmus, author of the Hallelujah Diet, cured himself of colon cancer by eating raw for a whole year. This was 30 years ago. Check www.hacres.com. There are so many testimonies on that website also. Let me know if you have any questions.
