We are a homeschooling family with 3 beautiful daughters ( ages 6, 4 and 6 months). we love to read stories and I am looking for veg friendly stories that don't put down eating vegtables ( I think there are too many of those out there.)I saw a few books on the previous post but I would like to know of others too :)
I ask because I am having so much trouble with getting my girls to eat their veggies ( all except my 6 month old:D ) and think this might help. Are there any movies too that show children eating vegtables? I thought I had read at some point that there was a video and I wished I had went out and got it when I had read it.

Eating the Alphabet would probably be a good one for your children. I can't remember the author at the moment, but it is basically an ABC book that has beautiful illustrations. Each of the letters is illustrated with a bunch of vegis that start with that letter.
Although kids aren't actually eating the vegis...
Two really great books are Oliver's Fruit Salad & Oliver's Vegetables both by the same author (can't remember her name either :)). They have a boy named Oliver who doesn't like vegis or fruit, but finds that he loves them once he starts trying them. They're really cute stories, but out of print, I believe. You many be able to find some left over copies somewhere, though.

Try looking on ebay, amazon.com, or half.com. You can usually find harder stuff to find on those sites. Maybe even try thrift stores or garage sales (when the weather gets better).
I havent seen the show, but how about Veggie Tales? I know the main characters are veggies, but maybe if they are "costumed people" characters, they may seem friendly to the kids. I was worried that your kids would not want to eat veggies if veggies seemed like "friends" but how many kids still eat chicken after watching Big Bird or other preschool shows with animal main characters and don't make the distinction or don't question it?

My kids love Veggie Tales as well. I was concerned also about them not wanting to veggies after seeing it, and my son did say something about not wanting to eat to "Jr" when I served asparagus one night... but I think he was just trying to get out of eating it, he's never been a fan of asparagus anyway lol.

There was an article in the paper about ugly looking veggies and how the author wanted to make some kind of dish with all of them. Well, he/she mentioned a book that I think was called "The Ugly Vegetables" by Grace Lin. It's about this Chinese mother and daughter and the daughter is mad at the mother because the mother is not planting a pretty flower garden like the rest of the neighbors but instead ugly veggies. At the end of the story, the daughter and the neighbors come around because the mother makes a really good soup with the ugly veggies from the garden.
I haven't read it but it looks like a cute book. Plus, it got good reviews on Amazon!

I have found some lovely books by Barefoot books press. They have a website you can order from, but you can find the books at the library also, or regular bookstore. The books are not all veggy, but they are very, hum, I don't know how to say it I guess they explore all sorts of "alternative" life styles. No animal killing, people actually being nice to each other. They publish the book Herb the Vegetarian Dragon, and loads of other books. I love them!

We just ordered a book called Benji Bean Sprout Doesn't Eat Meat by Sarah Rudy from amazon.com. It's about a boy named Benji, who is just like everyone else, except for one thing: he doesn't eat meat! Meet Benji "Bean Sprout" and learn with him as he visits many adorable animals at an animal sanctuary and discovers why he is a vegetarian. Alex and Scott, two boys at school, like to give Benji a hard time. By the end of the story, however, they learn to appreciate Benji and his differences - as well as his favorite meat in the whole world - Neat Loaf!

I think this is just what you are looking for, dd just brought a copy home from the school library the other day:
A Bad Case Of Stripes by David Shannon
Camilla loves lima beans, but won't eat them because no other children like them. One day she wakes up with bright stripes across her face. From then on she turns into whatever others around her are thinking about or expect of her. Until a old lady comes and gives her lima beans to eat. When she returns to normal Camilla decides that she doesn't care what anyone thinks and eats all the lima beans she wants.
A great overall message, but a good plug for loving lima beans too!

We just got Benji Bean Sprout Doesn't Eat Meat from Amazon.com. It is really great for my older dd b/c it is about a boy who is being made fun of at school for having a vegan diet. His parents take him to an animal sanctuary to see why they are vegan & his mom makes Neat Loaf to bring to school to share with the kids in his class.
It ends with the kids accepting his diet & him having friends who like to eat over at his house. It is a new book (2004 publication date).

Ds has been selecting "out of season" books this summer. When The Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey slipped into the bookbag, I was concerned when I saw the farmer with the hatchet. But the school children on a field trip rescued the turkeys and took them home to enjoy dinner WITH them. I don't what other books by this author are like...
