I have this incredible craving to try to make vegan tuna casserole. This was one of the last omniverous meals I gave up... Anyhow, I used to use egg noodles, cream of mushroom soup and tuna, and sprinkle with crumbled potato chips and bake in the oven. Our health foods store does not seem to carry any fake tuna, and I know Imagine Foods supposedly makes a vegan cream of mushroom soup, but our health food store and grocery store don't carry that particular flavor of Imagine Foods soups. I went to Imagine Foods' website and it listed where to buy online, but none of them seemed like vegan companies, and I'd rather stick with a vegan company if possible. Plus, it would be great if I could get the other items I need for the casserole all from one place. So does anyone know where online I can buy at least the fake tuna and un-cream of mushroom soup??? (I could probably find some suitable noodles from our health foods store). I've tried veganessentials, pangea, veganmerchantile, and a different daisy, and none of them seem to carry either of these items, let alone both... Any ideas?

Well, the fake Tuna is called Tuno and it's made by Morningstar Farms, which is not a vegan company itself. Imagine is not a vegan company either, as far as I know. I use both products anyway because I can't find comparable ones.

NoMeat.com sells Tuno for 3.79 a can.
TrueFoodsMarket.com sells a 32 oz container of the soup for 3.49.

Just to let you know, the first time I had Tuno, I hated it! When I was a kid, I would eat it straight out of the can. So I figured Tuno from the can would be similar to the real thing. I remember it being oily, and I tried to "wash" the oil out of it, kinda how I think you remove the oil from tuna packed in oil. That did not work.I remember making a face when I had it. I could barely finish the can. I think I threw the remainder out. (I had mixed it with vegan mayo, BTW.)

I dont remember when, but I had bought one of those frozen logs of Tuno. It was somehow buried in my freezer. I brought a lot of the food from my freezer to my boyfriend's. I figured that Tuno was gross, but he liked it, so he might as well eat it and not let it go to waste. He made Tuno casserole, and I tried it because I was hungry and I hoped that everything he put in there would make it less gross. One bite turned into another, and another. Then I was accused of being a pig and hogging all the Tuno casserole. That was really good! It had a great consistency (although a little smaller pieces than real tuna). And there was none of that oily flavor that was in the cans.

So I guess my point would be to either try both the can and the frozen Tuno to see which you like better. Or, I would just get the frozen kind. (I think its about $1 more than the can, but it seems like you get about twice as much.)

The way we make our casserole (which I dont know if its how its supposed to be made, but whatever, we like it) is that we make pasta (my bf likes ziti best), and mix it with the defrosted/heated up tuno, some veganaise, a little bit of mustard, peas, onions and some broken up pieces of Tofutti mozzarella cheese melted on top.

I know one of my friends has a good recipe, but I unfortunately dont have it. :(

Have you tried asking your health food store if they can special order some Tuno for you? Or how about the local grocery store? Its made by Kellog's/Morning Star, so its not like they would be getting it from a hard to contact distributor. I'm actually pretty surprised that your health food store doesn't carry it. The health food section of the local grocery store (Wegmans) carries the cans of Tuno. And the health food store in Syraucse and the big one in Buffalo both carry both cans and frozen Tuno.

Good luck.

I thought the cans were kind of oily too. I wouldn't have eaten it as a sandwich, but the casserole results were great.
