View Full Version : "morning" sickness
I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I recently found out that I'm pregnant. Around 8 weeks I think. During my last pregnancy I had terrible morning sickness. I couldn't keep anything down, including water and I was hospitalized. This time, I'm sick again, but not quite as bad. I also have a fever and chills, though, and I don't remember this from last time. Is this normal? Is it something I should be concerned about? Also if anybody knows anything that will help morning sickness, I'm all ears. I'm pretty sure I tried everything the first time around, but who knows.

Knock on wood, I only had "morning sickness" for the 1st couple of weeks that I knew I was pregnant. (Honestly, I think my "morning sickness" was butterflies and worrying about everything that goes with being pregnant.)
I've been told to eat some crackers or dry toast in the morning. Otherwise, I would talk to your midwife/doctor. Hopefully nothing's wrong, but that's what they're there for.
Good luck and congrats on being pregnant!
I have an appointment with my midwife on Tuesday. I'm not having the fever or chills anymore, so that's good at least. This is just sooo miserable. I threw up four times in this poor man's store today (in the bathroom, thankfully)! It probably doesn't help that I've been so depressed lately. My husband joined the coast guard and he'll be gone for 7 months. It's really hard to manage debilitating morning sickness, along with a toddler, and bills and everything by myself. Sorry, I don't mean to whine!

Hi Beth,
Whine away if you've got morning sickness on top of all of that other stuff! Congrats on your pregnancy, though!
Veg Family has reviewed just the product for you! Look on the homepage of the website under product reviews for "Preggo Pops" designed to help women with morning sickness.

Take some vitamin b-6!! I was so reluctant to try it because vitamins generally made me feel worse, but it worked so well. I was sick for 4 months with dd and with this pregnanacy (24 weeks so far so good) i was only quesy for about 6 weeks. Its amazing!

I didn't have any morning sickness with either of my girls, so I'm sorry that I have nothing to offer there. I did want to offer some support for going it alone, though. I know that that is tough.
My dh missed both of my pregnancies. He was working in CA while I was in school in CO. Angelina was 16 months old when I was pg with Tessa & going to grad school full-time alone. I'd never want to do it again, but we did get through. It is sad to have no one to send out in the middle of the night for soy ice cream, though!
I hope that you feel better soon.
Thank you, Christa. This is a big adjustment for me. Last pregnancy, my husband went to every single doctors appointment with me. And, yes, he did make the night trips for ice cream (I wasn't vegan yet, only vegetarian).
PikkuMyy, I ordered 6 bags of preggie pops when I found them! They do help some, but I'm running out quick!
Sadkitty, when did you start taking the B6? I've heard that you have to start taking them before you conceive. I bought some, but I've been too much of a wimp to take any cause I'm afraid I'll throw them up.

Hello! I had terrible morning sickness for 3 months. I threw up from the moment I woke up to when I went to sleep. I spent so much time in the bathroom at work, they actually bought me a stool to sit on while I was in there throwing up.
I found that popsicles really helped control my sickness and also gum (although I don't know if it is vegan/vegetarian).
Just know that it WILL end at some point. I feel lucky that it didn't last longer. I had one friend who threw up for 6 months all the time she was working. When I saw her at 7 months she had barely gained any weight and finally had started feeling better. So whenever I felt sick, I just kept thinking how other women have it worse and that I was Lukcy (hoping that it would only be 3 months, not more) and that really helped me mentally too.
Good luck!

You don't need to take them before you conceive to help with morning sickness, or all day sickness as was my case.
After much hemming and hawing, because I really didn't want anything to make me throw up either, I startted taking them at about 8 or 9 weeks I think.. My dear friend and my naturopath both strongly recommended them.
Well, I went to my midwife yesterday and I officially have hyperemesis, for the second time. I've lost 13 pounds in the last two weeks. I'm also dehydrated. If I keep it up, I'm going to end up in the hospital again. Luckily I've got my sister, who's watching Em full time. I guess I just have to wait it out.

Wow, that is just crummy! I hope that you didn't start out too skinny prior to pg, or you will waste away with that kind of weight loss. I hope that you start feeling better soon.
I started out at 138. Now I'm at 125. I'm pretty tall, though. My normal weight is 135. Anyway, you're not gonna believe this, but I woke up this morning and felt about 90 percent better! I still can't stand the smell of any food, and my sister's still making all of Emily's meals and feeding her, but I can get out of bed and eat a few things, and take care of Em. I never thought I would feel so much better so soon. I hope it lasts.
